Restarting an eero is a common first step when Wi-Fi is slow or devices lose connection. If speed is the main complaint, also see does your router or modem affect internet speed. A restart keeps your settings and network, so it is the safest fix to try before anything more drastic.

The eero app and its menus change over time, so the labels below may look slightly different on your phone.

Restart vs reset

  • Restart (reboot): turns the eero off and on and keeps your network and settings.
  • Reset: clears settings to some degree. A full factory reset removes the eero from your network and you must set it up again.

Eero describes more than one kind of reset, and the button press length matters. If you only want a reboot, do not hold the reset button. Use one of the methods below.

Option 1: Unplug it

  1. Unplug the power cable from the eero.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in.
  4. Wait a few minutes until the light settles. Many guides describe a solid white light as normal.

Option 2: Restart a single eero in the app

  1. Open the eero app.
  2. Select the eero you want to restart from the home screen.
  3. Look for an option such as Restart eero, often under Advanced or the device’s menu.
  4. Confirm and wait.

Option 3: Restart the whole network

If you have several eeros, you can reboot everything from the app.

  1. Open the app and go to Settings.
  2. Find the advanced networking section.
  3. Choose the option to restart the network and confirm.

How long does it take?

It commonly takes a few minutes, in many cases about two to three, for the light to go back to normal. If it has not recovered after ten minutes, move on to the troubleshooting below.

Restart in the right order

If your eero connects to a separate modem, restart in order:

  1. Unplug the modem and the eero.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds.
  3. Plug in the modem and wait for its lights to settle.
  4. Plug in the gateway eero, then any others.

If the eero is still not working

  • Check cables, especially the Ethernet cable from the modem to the gateway eero.
  • Look at the eero app for status messages.
  • Check for an outage with your internet provider.
  • Move a far-away eero closer to the gateway (see where to put your Wi-Fi router).
  • Contact eero support if a unit keeps rebooting.

If problems persist after a restart, a reset may be needed. Be careful because a full reset removes the unit from your network. If you hit trouble after resetting any router, see no internet after resetting your router.

FAQ

How do I reset my eero to a new network? This requires a factory reset and a new setup in the app. Check eero’s official instructions for your model first.

What if the eero is not working at all? Try a different outlet and cable, then contact eero support.
